Australia Post signs three-year deal with Telstra

Australia Post has signed a three-year, “multimillion-dollar” agreement with Telstra for connectivity for its almost 4000 locations.

Under the deal, Telstra will serve post offices, delivery centres, data centres and corporate sites nationwide. 

In a statement, Australia Post said it would upgrade “around 300 locations” to fibre-to-the-premises, while some regional sites “will transition to Telstra satellite internet over the next 12 months”.

The postal service also became an early corporate user of what Telstra calls its ‘Adaptive Networks Centre’, essentially a central portal through which it can oversee and manage network services.

Telstra’s network, product and technology group executive Kim Krogh Andersen wrote in a LinkedIn post that “since July, we've transitioned more than 1000 sites and are now averaging around 220 site transitions each week.”

“The rollout is tracking ahead of schedule and demonstrating what's possible when connectivity is delivered through a modern software platform,” he wrote.

Australia Post’s executive general manager of enterprise services Michael McNamara said the Telstra agreement “builds on … Post's ongoing investment in technology to improve operational performance and deliver a better experience for customers across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.”

“Telstra's national reach and network capability, particularly in regional Australia, made them the right fit for this partnership,” he said.
