Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak joins UTS

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has bypassed elite universities in his native United States to partner with the University of Technology Sydney as an adjunct professor.

The inventor, electronics engineer and computer programmer will land in Sydney this coming December to visit UTS’ city campus.

The appointment means UTS students will be able to share in the insights of the man who designed the first Apple computers, as he takes on an unspecified number of lectures at the institution.

Wozniak will also team up with staff inside UTS’ innovation and enterprise research 'Magic Lab'.

A UTS spokesman said Wozniak will visit the Sydney campus two to three times a year, depending on his other engagements, and will telepresence in to consult with the research teams and help on student projects the rest of the time.

Lab director Professor Mary-Anne Williams said in a statement that Wozniak “constantly highlights the new possibilities for technology to change the world and enjoys sharing his insights and experiences”.

“He beams in on our telepresence device to chat with students, share his latest ideas and entertain with jokes and the occasional prank," she said.

"Woz is a strong advocate for technology and its impact on society…he constantly highlights the new possibilities for technology to change the world and he will be working with us to help UTS reach its vision to be a leading university of technology."
