Airservices to shift into secure cloud

Signs $84m digital transformation deal.

Airservices Australia will deploy a secure cloud and desktop-as-a-service under an $84 million deal announced today.

Airservices to shift into secure cloud

The five-year deal with IT services provider ASG includes access to cloud resources by Vault Systems, whose services have been certified to carry protected-level government data.

“This provides Airservices with the assurance that all sensitive data is contained on an Australian Signals Directorate-certified cloud platform,” ASG said in a statement.

ASG said the cloud project would underpin digital transformation at the agency, bringing “agility” to the way it runs key business systems.

Work is due to begin this month.

The contract also includes a second five-year term option, which would increase the value to ASG.

“ASG will be providing best-in-breed technology and service to Airservices, but with the added security and flexibility to scale with business demand and deliver strong economic gains,” COO Dean Langenbach said.

Airservices reinstated its chief information officer role in 2016 before trimming its IT department.

Separately, the agency is working with Defence on a $1.2 billion overhaul of Australia's air traffic management systems.
