Welcome to the site of HP's new Sydney data centre in Eastern Creek. This ought to give you a sense of the size...
iTnews found these plans for the site online.
The facility will be made up of five 2320 square metre cells - which is about 45 tennis courts.
Construction work is underway, with the first 2320 square metre cell due to be operational by the end of 2011. HP expects that some 200 will be employed in the construction effort and a further 200 during customer migration to the new facility.
Eastern Creek has become a popular site for new Sydney data centre bills. iTnews also ran an exclusive story on Woolworths building a data centre in the same area. HP executives told us today (see video) that the area has plenty of fibre connectivity and space.
iTnews has also learned that a new power substation is being built in Eastern Creek to accommodate commercial growth.
The HP data centre will be built in a modular fashion - the first shell will cost some $119 million. The other four can be built as customer needs demand.
The Eastern Creek area is also close enough to existing HP data centres to run active-connections for those customers demanding the live replication of systems.
It can get awful hot out at Eastern Creek - HP executives were unwilling to discuss any plans for free cooling or tri-gen power generation, instead reporting that the facility would have a PUE of under 1.3.
The facility is large in breadth but not particularly tall, according to published plans.
And the question for readers - what is the plant the artists have sketched alongside the building?
