Complexity can damage your system defences

IT security systems are being weakened by their own complexity, a new report claims. The report, published by Computer Associates (CA), highlights how confused security management is threatening company networks.

"Companies are continually implementing new security software," said Mike Small, director of eTrust strategy at CA. "This leads to an increase in complexity and a worsening of the ability to manage the environment."

Small pinpointed regulatory compliance as a major factor in the growing complexity of systems. He called for a more holistic approach to security management.
