A Victorian man has been arrested over alleged distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against two businesses this year.

The 34-year-old was arrested in the outer Melbourne suburb of Ringwood on Tuesday following a cyber crime investigation by detectives from Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police.

In a brief statement, Victoria Police said the alleged attacks were conducted "against a telecommunications business and a large shopping complex between June and October this year".

Neither business has been named.

The man, who has been remanded in custody, is assisting police with their ongoing enquiries.

The arrest follows a similar joint operation between Victoria Police and the AFP in July that netted two men allegedly responsible for a large-scale DDoS attack on police phone systems last year.

Last month, Victoria and NSW were found to have the highest incidence of cyber crime in Australia, responsible for 26 percent and 25 percent of all reports received by the Australian Cyber Security Centre since July.
