Telstra has signed up mid-sized telco People Telecom as the first retailer of its ADSL2+ wholesale services.

Telstra has historically only offered ADSL wholesale services, and rival telcos have had to construct their own ADSL2+ networks. Currently, Telstra has the largest ADSL2+ network in Australia, reaching more than 900 telephone exchanges.

People Telecom already has an established relationship with Telstra, and signed a $200 million deal with them earlier this year. It currently has about 37,000 subscribers throughout the country.

People Telecom CEO John Stanton said in a statement that he expects the service to roll out sometime in September.

There is now much industry speculation that Telstra will be looking to secure similar reselling contracts with other mid-sized telcos around the country.
