The revised technology will provide organisations with up-to-date information on bots, Symantec claimed.

A bot is a malicious program that is secretly installed on to a computer, allowing attackers to control the system remotely.

The service detects such activity, identifies malware and compares blacklist data with benign activity, according to the security company.

"Symantec views bots as the most severe online security threat to enterprises," said Grant Geyer, vice-president of Symantec managed security services, in a statement.

Customers of Symantec’s managed security service will automatically receive access to the new bot intelligence at no additional cost.
