Symantec has acquired Brisbane software company XtreamLok for an undisclosed sum.

John Donovan, managing director for Symantec Australia New Zealand, described XtreamLok as a "truly innovative company".

XtreamLok develops anti-piracy and activation technologies, which enable the licensing of software applications.

According to a statement, by acquiring XtreamLok Symantec would have greater control over the implementation of licensing technology for its product portfolio.

XtreamLok has 30 staff, who would continue to be based in Brisbane. They will become part of the Symantec Consumer Products and Solutions division.
