Christmas commiserations.

Yahoo was expected to chop 650 US roles from its 14,100 strong workforce as early as next Tuesday, according to a report.

Report: Yahoo to axe 650 jobs

Roles expected to be targeted were from Yahoo's product division, recently taken over by former Microsoft corporate VP for the Windows Live Platform group, Blake Irving.

Yahoo spokespeople have declined to comment on the matter.

The cuts, representing five per cent of its US workforce, were significantly less than the 20 percent reduction reported in November by tech blog, TechCrunch.

At the time of that report, Yahoo issued a terse denial, branding the 20 percent figure as "misleading and inaccurate".
