Oracle augments Linux with clustering

Oracle Clusterware will be available to the firm's Basic and Premier class Unbreakable Linux customers. The technology allows users to group commodity servers together so that applications run as if on a single system.

Oracle Clusterware will "make Linux more scalable, available, cost-effective and overall a better enterprise platform for our customers," said Angelo Pruscino, vice president, Oracle server technologies, Oracle.

Oracle Clusterware was previously only available as part of its Real Application Clusters (RAC) technology. Although many found RAC initially complex, it has steadily won converts.

"This announcement is yet another proof point highlighting Oracle's commitment to advancing Linux through technology enhancements and enterprise-quality Linux support," added Pruscino.

Oracle claims it now has over 2,000 customers for its Unbreakable Linux offering.
