Australian biometrics specialist, Argus Solutions, has won an order from the NSW Department of Corrective Services (NSW DCS) for the supply of its identity management solution.

The rollout is based on Argus’ proprietary product – Cornerstone - which makes use of both fingerprint and iris recognition biometric technologies.

Bruce Lyman, CEO at Argus, said, the order - worth around $240,000 - will see the company as the prime contractor and integrator of a state wide centrally served identity solution.

“The [project] will bring together as many as three to four third party software, all managed under the Cornerstone product suite,” he said.

“Argus will deliver its biometric services in such a way that the NSW DCS will have its existing offender management system biometrically enabled.

“This preserves existing investment in software solutions.”

According to Lyman, the department plans to roll the solution out to 34 correctional sites and deploy Cornerstone to other areas operational within the Justice environment.

“The Cornerstone solution will be a fully distributed system and will include replication services across the state,” Lyman claimed.

“This means that each site using the solution will be able to continue to function even when communication networks are down.”

This latest project comes off the back of Western Australian DCS’ (WA DCS) deployment and use of Argus’ solution earlier this month.

The project required the delivery of Cornerstone into the existing Total Offender Management System, used by the WA DCS.
