Kicks off recruitment for new CIO.

The NSW Ambulance Service is looking to recruit a chief information officer following the retirement of veteran tech leader Roger Hanssen in July.

NSW Ambulance farewells 15-year IT veteran

“Mr Roger Hanssen was a valued member of the NSW Ambulance family for more than 15 years,” Ambulance’s Michael Homden, Executive Director Operational Logistics told iTnews.

The service has begun advertising for its first permanent chief information and technology officer, after making over what used to be the director of information system’s role.

It is looking for an experienced IT executive to take over what it describes as “a challenging service delivery environment where there is an increasing reliance on automated work practice to deliver frontline emergency health services”.

“As a member of the NSW Ambulance’s Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Information and Technology Officer is instrumental in driving ongoing IC&T and automated work practices to enhance the way in which NSW Ambulance’s technology supports frontline service delivery throughout the state.”

The successful candidate will oversee an annual IT budget of $23 million, from which it must maintain some of the most critical technology and communications infrastructure in the state.

The Ambulance Service’s computer aided dispatch systems process an average of 3340 emergency responses per day, or one every 25.9 seconds, meaning that there is no space for downtime.

NSW Ambulance employs roughly 4000 staff.

The CITO role is being temporarily filled by Andrew Crawford.
