The forum was industry-led, non-profit and aimed to advance the IEEE 802.16, or WiMAX, broadband wireless networking standard, according to a statement from Netgear.
Ian McLean, vice president at Netgear Asia-Pacific, said the company realised the importance of supporting emerging technologies like WiMAX.
“WiMAX extends the geographical reach of Wi-Fi and holds huge potential for the local market, particularly in Australia’s rural and regional areas where access to broadband has traditionally been restricted,” said McLean.
