Lucky number of fixes due from Microsoft on Patch Tuesday

Four of the updates will affect Microsoft Windows, with a highest possible severity rating of critical.

Three additional bulletins will affect Microsoft Office, also with a highest possible severity rating of critical.

The hefty patch release follows last month's set of 12 fixes, the largest distribution in recent memory from Microsoft.

Eight of June's patches were deemed critical by the software giant, including a cumulative patch for Internet Explorer (IE) and a long awaited fix for Microsoft Word.

The cumulative bulletin was released to resolve several vulnerabilities in IE that could allow remote code execution.

Among the other critical bulletins fixed in June was a long anticipated fix for a flaw in Word that could also allow remote code execution.

Critical flaws in ART Image Rendering, Jscript, Media Player, routing and remote access, graphics rendering engine and PowerPoint were also fixed.

In May, Microsoft released three fixes, two of which were deemed critical and prevent remote code execution.

One of the critical patches was for Microsoft Exchange, with the other fixing a hole in Macromedia Flash Player.
