Juniper buys application acceleration technology firms

By

Juniper Networks has agreed to acquire Peribit Networks, a supplier of WAN optimization technology, and Redline Networks, a maker of Application Front End (AFE) technology.

Juniper executives said the technologies are "key elements in addressing the performance and security issues associated with an increasingly distributed and mobile enterprise."

The Peribit deal is valued at about $337 million in cash, stock, and assumed options. The Redline acquisition is valued at approximately $132 million in cash and assumed stock options.

According to Juniper, WAN optimization allows distributed enterprises to deliver LAN-like application performance over the WAN. AFE technology boosts the performance and scalability of web-enabled enterprise data centers and sites, the company said.
