HP refreshes HP-UX 11i platform

By

HP has announced updates to its HP-UX 11i high-end Unix environment designed to extend server uptime, along with enhancements to its Serviceguard technology to improve availability in clustered environments.

HP-UX 11i v3 Update 4 now enables customers to substantially reduce planned downtime for operating system upgrades by applying changes to a new root partition while the system remains online.

Once fully tested and verified, the system can be rebooted with the new environment, the firm said.

Other enhancements include a Disk Scrub feature to ensure that sensitive information is securely erased when no longer required, and an electronic delivery option that enables customers to download the operating system instead of waiting for install disks. This can reduce deployment times from days to hours, according to HP.

The company has also updated its Serviceguard clustering software for high availability of HP-UX systems, integrating workload balancing to prevent servers from being overloaded when a failover happens.

HP has eliminated the need for planned downtime for cluster maintenance by enabling customers to add or delete resources, or change application parameters, while the application continues to run.

HP Serviceguard A.11.19 and HP-UX 11i v3 Update 4 are available immediately worldwide.
