Heath Ledger tops Google search list

Google's online records show that in less than 12 hours since the announcement of Heath Ledger's death, the actor has topped the search engine's top 100 ‘Hot Trends’ list of most used search terms.

As of 12:50pm, 22 January 2007, more than 30 out of the 100 search terms used on Google were directly related to Ledger. Rounding out the top eight terms; heath ledger; keith ledger; michelle williams; heath ledger found dead; matilda ledger; brokeback mountain; 10 things i hate about you and; michelle williams heath ledger.

The Web has been instrumental in helping fans express their grief over the actors' passing away. According to an article featured on the Sydney Morning Herald, “less than an hour after news of Ledger's death broke, fan sites including heathledger.net, heathbaby.com and heathledgercentral.com and heathledger.com had melted down and were inaccessible”.

There has also been an outpouring of grief on social networking sites such as Facebook.

One Facebook site, “Heath Ledger RIP 22/01/2008”, had 2615 fans while other Ledger tribute sites have have attracted similar online crowds.

The Perth-born, Oscar nominee was discovered at around 3pm New York time, naked and unconscious by his housekeeper.
