
The study also suggests that continuing government security breaches will drive investment in secure content management systems.
"There will be accelerated investment in 2008, but the five-year overall US IT government spending picture will remain relatively flat," said Teresa Bozzelli, chief operating officer and managing director at Government Insights.
"Another key trend for 2008 is that governments will look to squeeze more value from enterprise resource planning by making substantial investments to extend foundational capabilities to further integrate back- to front-office operations."
The study reckons that the first substantial wave of the government workforce retirement bubble will force governments to measurably broaden the use of tele-working and to re-examine sourcing strategies.
