Google unifies payments under 'Google Pay'

Vice president of product management for payments, Pali Bhat, said in a blog post that Google Pay would include Android Pay and Google Wallet.

“With Google Pay, it’ll be easier for you to use the payment information saved to your Google account, so you can speed through checkout with peace of mind,” Bhat said.

“Over the coming weeks, you’ll see Google Pay online, in store, and across Google products, as well as when you’re paying friends.”

Bhat noted a small number of sites, including Airbnb, had already started displaying the new Google Pay logo, which appears as ‘G Pay’.

The web giant issued updated developer documentation and guidance on how to integrate Google Pay into existing platforms.

Bhat said that “bringing everything into one brand is just the first step for Google Pay” but did not share additional details about the company’s direction.
