German airport pilots iris-recognition authentication

German immigration authorities are piloting a biometric passport control system at Frankfurt airport.

The iris recognition system will act as an automated passport control and allow passengers to bypass traditional passport checks.


European citizens qualify for using the system, but must register with police and consent to biometric data being added to their passports.
