Australia’s largest game developer Mighty Kingdom has appointed Dr Grant Osborne as its first chief technology officer.

Osborne joins Mighty Kingdom with over 15 years of computer science experience. He was previously the chief data scientist at Pickstar, principal engineer at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) and chief technology officer of global games and esports media network GAMURS.
According to Osborne, “I am incredibly excited to be on board. Mighty Kingdom does dynamics and people really well, the company culture is awesome, and it really shows in the quality and storytelling of its games. I can't wait to help the team nail that high scalability and technology roadmap, which will help us apply some of the incredible emerging technology that’s out there.”
The CTO role will see Osborne drive growth for the game studio through the implementation of emerging technology and streamlining development processes. His focus will be to adapt the Mighty Kingdom technology teams, improving the tech roadmaps and pathways.
Mighty Kingdom managing director and founder, Philip Mayes, said: “Now is the right time in Mighty Kingdom’s development to have our first CTO. To have secured someone of Grant’s calibre is a huge coup. His depth of experience in managing high-performing teams in conjunction with his expertise, particularly in machine learning and AI, will ensure Mighty Kingdom is well placed to achieve our strategic growth.”
Osborne received his PhD in computer and information science in computer forensics at the University of South Australia, which focused on the application of novel information visualisation techniques to solving key research issues. He developed a new web-based system for real time visualisation and filtering of digital forensic data that was used by digital forensic practitioners to evaluate the effectiveness of the research.
Mighty Kingdom designs game experiences with global brands including LEGO, Disney, Mattle, Funcom, Moose Toys and Spin Master. There are a number of projects in development including original games and co-developed titles.
The team has grown from 30 to 167 employees in the past five years.
