EFTel buys small Western Australian ISP

Internet service provider EFTel has bought small competitor West Australian Networks in the latest move to consolidate the ISP sector.

Approximately 1500 business and residential will move across to EFTel from July 2 under an all-cash acquisition of the Western Australian company.

EFTel chief executive Scott Stavretis said in a statement that the acquisition would allow the company to "cross-sell into the loyal customer base".

The acquisition also include the company's intellectual property and its domain name, westnet.net.au, which bears resemblance to the iiNet subsidiary of the same name.

It is one of several acquisitions made by the ISP in recent months.

Following a reverse takeover of ClubTelco, EFTel bought telco wholesaler Platform Networks last year, a company which served small and largely regional service providers.
