Bank cards break down overnight.

The Commonwealth Bank has resolved a “processing issue” that prevented its customers from withdrawing cash overnight.

Commbank suffers ten-hour payment outage

Between about 11pm yesterday and 8.30am today, affected bank accounts appeared empty, so account holders could not withdraw money from EFTPOS, Commonwealth Bank ATMs, and ATMs on other bank networks.

The bank advised customers to visit its branches, which typically operated between 9.30am and 4pm on weekdays.

Its online banking platform, NetBank, remained operational throughout the outage.

A Commonwealth Bank spokesman told iTnews this morning that the issue “resulted from a processing issue in one of our payments systems”.

The bank said the outage was unrelated to any security issues or the leap year.

As of 10.20am, the bank was in the process of rectifying an ongoing issue that prevented users of scheme debit card – such as Debit Mastercards – from using the “credit” option.
