Tasers fire two darts carrying 50,000 volts into the target and usually knock a human unconscious.
However, because the amperage is so low, there should be little harm to the victim, although over 70 people have died after being struck.
Tasers are in use by 10 UK police forces, but a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said that his force had no plans to use the devices.
"I can honestly say no, we won't be using it," he told The Guardian. "Do you think that would be a good use of public money?"
