BAA buys application management tools

By

Airport operator BAA is buying 10,000 licences for application and network performance management solutions to be used over seven airports in the UK.

Heathrow and Gatwick airports are the first to receive the solutions, which are designed to prevent unauthorised use of network resources, and monitor network performance.

The implementation is part of a BAA initiative to move towards server-based architecture for applications.

Application management firm AppSense provided the software, which will cover more than 100 applications in HR, finance, logistics and IT departments.

A spokesperson for AppSense said that that Application Manager will prevent unauthorised access to servers, providing better security and ensuring that system resources are reserved for authorised applications.  Performance Manager will be used to improve processor usage and control the amount of memory allocated to individual users, resulting in consistent performance delivery, particularly at peak times.
