Avocent buys Sonic Mobility

Avocent has acquired secure wireless systems supplier Sonic Mobility for $8 million.

Avocent, a Huntsville based manufacturer of computer peripherals, switching and connectivity products, will assume liabilities and transaction costs in the deal.


"Avocent believes the addition of Sonic Mobility's proprietary products will expand our markets to include solutions for the fast-growing market for mobile IT assets," John Cooper, Avocent president and CEO, said in a prepared statement.

Sonic Mobility's products include software for securely accessing intranet and extranet resources via mobile handheld devices, and software for centrally managing mobile devices.

Sonic Mobility's CEO, Derek Ball, will join Avocent as its director of business development for mobile soutions. Sonic Mobility is based in Calgary, Canada.
