The company, which was formed by integrating BPAY Group, eftpos and NPP Australia, confirmed the inaugural position in a statement to iTnews.

“AP+ has created the CISO role as part of our never-ending commitment to cyber security and protecting Australia’s critical payments systems,” an AP+ spokesperson said.

“The role will report into the chief information officer (CIO), May Lam.

“This will help ensure our cyber security commitments are embedded right across our technology and information systems.”

On the company’s executive leadership page, Lam’s responsibilities are listed as covering “engineering, data management, cyber security and cloud infrastructure”, as well as “accountability for all of the core technology systems and processes offered by AP+, both directly and via key partners.”

The recruitment advertisement for the CISO notes that the role will play “a critical role in safeguarding AP+ systems and data from cyber threats” and “provide strategic and operational leadership for AP+'s information security program.”

The CISO will also lead security awareness culture initiatives inside of the organisation.
