Aush0k hearing postponed
Matthew Flannery aka Aush0k.

Point Clare resident Matthew Flannery, known online as Aush0k, made a brief appearance at Woy Woy Local Court on the NSW Central Coast today.

The court heard the case had "evolved" since Flannery's arrest by the Australian Federal Police back in April.

Flannery's counsel told the court the Director of Public Prosecution was still working its way through "a number of complex logs" [files].

When contacted by iTnews, the Australian Federal Police said it would be inappropriate to detail the type and quantity of information involved or whether any new information had come to light since Flannery's Sydney court appearance in May this year.

The AFP did reveal it was currently examining 200,000 lines of chat matched against compromised web server logs.

"The information provided in the brief of evidence includes analysis of large data sets," an AFP spokesperson said.

"This type of investigation will involve a reasonable amount of time taken for non-technical people (lawyers etc) to digest the evidence presented."

The brief of evidence, which will outline the specific nature of the data involved, will be filed with the court before the end of September.

Flannery is accused of taking advantage of a known exploit to access the website of Narrabri Shire Council, later putting in a backdoor to gain further access, defacing the site with an image and altering the site’s internal structure.

He was taken into custody at his former workplace, IT security provider Content Security, where he was employed as a support technician until May.

Commander Glen McEwan, manager of the AFP's Cyber Crime Operations, said in April it was not 'harmless fun' to attack government websites, and such actions had "huge ramifications for society”.
