Chinese hackers are limbering up for a cyberattack on Japanese websites on August 15.

According to reports from Asian media, hackers plan to mount the attack via selected servers based in Korea in order to avoid the attack being traced back to the hackers.

Hong Kong newspaper Wen Wei Po said the Association of China's Red Hackers is behind the threat and said they are aiming their wrath at anti-Chinese sites. The Red Hackers are thought to consist of students and graduates of Beijing University.

The association is said to group its members into three teams with each one focusing on the following three tasks: collecting intelligence on weak points of targets, preparing for counter attacks and hitting Japan's anti-Chinese websites including that of Fusosha, a center of contention over alleged distortion of history textbooks.

One person who claims to be a member of the group said it has already chosen three targets in Korea from which to launch the attacks. The servers belong to a Korean gaming company and universities. "The security level of those servers is lower than expected. So they are thought to be proper for avoiding IP tracking," he told the newspaper.

He added, "as of July 13, 45,000 hackers in China joined our plan. Keep an eye on us on August 15."
