Apple sells one million iPads in the US

Faster selling than the iPhone.

Apple sold its one millionth iPad on Friday, the vendor announced today.

Apple reached the milestone not even a month after the device was first introduced in the US on the 3 April.

Apple has also revealed that iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million applications from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple chief executive.

“Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

In early April Apple said the demand for the iPad was so high in the US it would have to delay shipments of the device to the rest of the world by one month.
