AOL secures instant messaging

By

Internet provider America Online is tightening security on its instant messenger network.

The firm is migrating customers from its AIM enterprise gateway to IM Logic's IM Manager to allow for improved security policies and reporting of all IM traffic.

"[It] reflects on the evolution of the IM market," said Edmund Fish, general manager for desktop messaging at AOL. "We will deliver business services to tens of millions of users."

The migration is taking place as part of AOL's bid to sell IM to more businesses.

People using AOL's AIM service will receive licences for the new solution, AOL said.
