Amazon Web Services has refused to confirm or deny a report that it is scoping redundant data centre space in Sydney.

The public cloud compute provider was said to be readying a local facility presence for launch "by early next year", according to a report in The Australian today.
Equinix was flagged in the report as a potential host. It has recently completed stage one of Sydney3 and has two facilities located a short distance away in a neighbouring suburb.
A spokeswoman for Amazon said the company did "not comment on rumours or speculation."
"Over time, we plan to have more AWS Regions in different countries around the world," she said.
Amazon's interest in Australia has long been established. Senior vice president for web services Andy Jassy told iTnews a year ago that the company was "very interested in Australia".
"We are very hopeful and optimistic about have a data centre presence in Australia in the near future," he said.
