Aiming to broaden its reach into the public-sector market, AEP Networks has agreed to acquire V-ONE, a maker of SSL VPN products.

V-ONE's government customers include the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, and Treasury.

"This strategic acquisition gives AEP Networks, virtually overnight, critical mass in the important U.S. government market for secure networking infrastructure," Pat Donnellan, AEP Networks CEO, said in a statement.

V-ONE will become AEP Networks Government Solutions Group. Margaret Grayson, V-ONE's president and CEO, will serve as executive vice president and general manager of the group.

AEP Networks was formed last year, when AEP Systems merged with SSL VPN maker Netilla Networks. The company's portfolio also includes IPSec VPNs and SSL acceleration hardware.

AEP Networks plans to retain V-ONE's engineering, customer support, sales and marketing staff.

The deal is expected to close in 30 days. Terms were not disclosed.
