Adobe's security chief has applauded Apple for preventing users from running outdated versions of Flash Player.
Apple prevented users from running superceded versions of Flash Player (10.1.102.64 and earlier) in its latest Safari update by moving files to a new directory.
Users were then directed to the Adobe site to update their software.
Brad Arkin said he welcomed the “initiative by Apple to encourage Mac users to stay up-to-date”.
“The single most important thing we can do to protect ourselves from the bad guys is to stay up-to-date.
“A thank you to the security team at Apple for working with us to help protect our mutual customers.”
The update followed a similar enforcement on users preventing them from running outdated versions of Java.
It also blocked automatic execution of Java on OS X last month to prevent infection by the Flashback malware.
Adobe will “very soon” introduce a Mac version its Flash Player background updater, available to Windows and Linux users since March.
