The first cartidge-sized server to come to market will be based on the Atom 1200 processor, and is designed specifically for web applications that need scale-out. Savvis is signed up as a beta customer. In some respects it's HP's product answer to the challenge most large single-purpose web applications (think Facebook, Google, Salesforce) have had to solve by building their own custom servers. HP hopes to flog these units - at $61,875 for the chassis and 45 servers - to web hosts wishing to offer dedicated hosting packages, among others.
