EMC World kicked off in Boston today with the announcement of VPlex virtual storage technology.
The theme of the conference is 'the journey to the private cloud starts now' - it's on every surface - above the airport baggage carousel, in the keynote area, on t-shirts being sold adjacent and given away for free in the solutions pavilion...
Attendees proved willing to sit through a scripted presentation to get a free cloud t-shirt.
Another 'game show' themed presentation touting the benefits of the private cloud in return for some tickets that can be redeemed for a shirt - and a chance to win other electronic devices like an iPad.
Cloud of fortune offered a three-minute marketing presentation followed by a mini-gameshow on what attendees had just learned about the private cloud.
There were other games on offer, including this 'chocolate wheel'. Unfortunately this guy didn't win...
Some good ol' fashioned car racing.
Or you could just check out some real wheels courtesy of EMC's midrange server mascot.
EMC's new VPlex appliances racked up for display.
Symmetrix hardware from the EMC display.
VMware has an entire semi-trailer devoted to virtualisation. Tours were on offer but we couldn't take one tonight.
Other such as Brocade were offering faux magic to lure attendees into their stand.
... And those without obvious gimmicks didn't seem any worse off in attracting delegates to their presentations.
