Wimbledon.org serves up three million hits
The All England Lawn Tennis Club has announced that the wimbledon.org website had nearly three million hits in the first week of the Wimbledon Championships.

The organisation said that 2,830,222 unique users had visited the website by 3 July, day seven of the championship. In total there have been 11,369,642 web visits and 102,389,577 page views.

IBM is supporting the Wimbledon Tennis Championship website for the 17th year. Last year, wimbledon.org was accessed by 4.6 million unique visitors who visited the site 29.9 million times in the space of the tournament fortnight.

The site runs on IBM Power p550 computers. Aside from the website, Big Blue is also providing an online training programme for the ball boys and girls.

Bluetooth hotspots mean that trees have been enabled with the wireless technology across the capital to transmit the latest scores and news to passers by, while real-time identification badge scanning technology has been implemented to boost security.
