VeriSign buys again

VeriSign acquired its second company of the month, buying Massachusetts-based mobile infrastructure firm m-Qube for $250 million in cash.

m-Qube, which has 200 employees in the U.S., develops messaging and content services reaching 200 million subscribers in North America. It has a customer list including Sony Pictures, CBS, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Reuters and GQ, according to the company's website.

"VeriSign is combining its world-class expertise applications and infrastructure to make content convergence over any network and any device a reality," said Vernon Irvin, VeriSign Communications Services executive vice president and general manager, in a Monday statement. "m-Qube will increase our leadership and expand our services in this emerging category."

VeriSign has expanded its services numerous times in recent weeks. The company acquired Kontiki, a delivery systems management firm for digital and video content, earlier this month. Last month, it acquired 3united, a wireless applications service provider.

"We are excited that m-Cube's expertise, services and relationships will now be a part of VeriSign, an established provider of secure, reliable and globally scalable content and communications services," said Jeffrey Glass, chief executive officer of m-Qube. "This combination will accelerate our customers' ability to bring a robust suite of digital content and services to the marketplace."
