Two Microsoft patches due next week

The computing giant said on its website today that one of the fixes, for Microsoft Office, has a maximum severity rating of "critical."

"One Microsoft security bulletin affecting Microsoft Office. The highest maximum severity rating for this is critical. These updates may require a restart," Microsoft said on its TechNet website.

The other bulletin will affect Microsoft Windows. It has a maximum severity rating of "important."

Redmond said it will also issue an updated version of its Malicious Software Removal Tool via Windows Update, the Windows Server Update Services and the Download Center.

Microsoft will not release any non-security updates next Tuesday.

The company released seven security updates last month, including four for Microsoft Windows.

Redmond released two patches, both deemed "critical," in January, less than a week after it released an out-of-cycle patch for the Windows metafile vulnerability that had gained widespread media attention in the early days of the year.
