Telstra coughs up $67M to up-skill staff
Telstra has appointed Accenture in a new $67 million deal to help train up the telco’s in-field staff.

The five-year contract would see the establishment of a new Telstra Learning Academy designed to run specialist training, in areas such as IP technology, for its field workforce.

The academy, planned to be fully operational in six months, will see staff based in existing Telstra training centres in Sydney and Melbourne.

The deal is the first step in a $200 million program, flagged by Telstra last year, which will see a rapid up-skilling of the company’s staff and potential improvements in service levels.

Telstra network and technology executive managing director, Dan Burns, said in a statement that the agreement was central to Telstra’s overall staff training program.

"Telstra is undergoing a major transformation with the introduction of many new products and advanced technologies,” he said. “The new Telstra Learning Academy will help ensure field staff has the skills to build, run and maintain these technologies.”
