The German authorities allege that the group targeted users of online banks by sending them phishing emails with a malicious attachment, which once installed stole bank account details from the infected machines.

They are accused of defrauding users out of hundreds of thousands of pounds in the scam.

German police seized the gang, which includes two women, in several cities across the country following an 18 month investigation.

The capture of the suspects, who hail from Russia, Ukraine and Germany, was announced on the website of Germany’s Federal Crime Office.
