The US Government is to protect the country's infrastructure with an elite team of hackers performing electronic warfare and military deception.

The news was revealed last month in a statement to the Strategic forces Subcommittee by General James Cartwright, commander of United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM).

According to Cartwright The Joint Functional Component Command For Network Warfare will "facilitate cooperative engagement with other national entities in computer network defense and offensive information warfare as part of global information operations."

The group will operate alongside two departments also involved directly with the safety of US networks. The Joint Task Force for Global Networks Operations and the Joint Information Operations Center will, coordinate according to Cartwright "psychological operations, electronic warfare, operations security and military deception."

A report in Wired today claims that the US military has already assembled the multi-million operation and some of the world's best hackers have already joined.
