Suncorp signs up to Apple Pay

Suncorp has joined the growing number of banks offering Apple Pay to its customers.

Customers with a Suncorp Visa debit card and compatible Apple devices will now be able to set up the contactless payment service.

Suncorp's customer marketplace CEO Pip Marlow said in a statement that the bank wanted "to make it effortless for customers to pay and have responded to their calls to improve our digital payment offering."

“The availability of Apple Pay means that our customers have access to faster and more secure payment methods," she said.

Marlow said customers had so far been enthusiastic about adopting other digital features and enhancements to Suncorp’s banking and insurance services.

The announcement comes just days after Citi started offering Apple Pay to its Australian customers.

The mobile wallet, which also works on Macbooks through Safari, uses a unique dynamic security code to authorise each transaction, rather than storing card details on the phone or on Apple's servers.

Apple Pay also assigns a unique device account number to each device, which is encrypted and stored on the device's secure element.
