Two Oxford University students are facing fines up to £500 for hacking into their university's network.

The first-year students published their account of the break-in in a student newspaper, saying that they wanted to expose vulnerabilities in the university network.

According to reports, one of the students said it took minutes to access information, such as student email passwords weblogs.

Oxford University and the police are investigated the students.

The students are expected at a hearing in September.
