New role created in executive reshuffle.

South Australia’s Department of Premier and Cabinet has opened applications for a chief technology officer following a major shake-up of its executive ranks in February.

The new CTO will take responsibility for the agency’s internal IT machinations, as well as supporting the corporate services - like accounts payable, payroll and procurement services - the department delivers to its client agencies under the state’s troubled shared services scheme.

The role is being temporarily filled by Spencer Briggs.

The CTO will work alongside whoever is permanently handed the director of digital government title. Rick Seaman has taken over these responsibilities in the interim.

The director of digital government position was established as a result of the February restructure, and replaces the now dissolved government CIO position formerly filled by Bret Morris.

The new role takes in many of the whole-of-government oversight functions of the former GCIO, but operates one rung lower on the executive hierarchy.

The CTO will be tasked with leading a new ICT unit within the department as well as commencing a review into how to “consolidate and remodel” the way IT services are delivered to both internal and external customers.
