According to a blog post, work was completed early Saturday morning followed by "various optical and powering tests and assessments".

"[It] means that for the first time, Sydney, Guam and Madang [Papua New Guinea] are connected by a continuous piece of fibre-optic glass," the company said.

The splice marked the completion of the marine program of work.

The cable was expected to launch to commercial traffic on October 8th.
