NASA recognises Vic integrator

Tele-IP managing director Ian May said in a release to the ASX that NASA in a recent Langley Research Center publication--“Atmospheric Boundary Layer Sensors for Application in a Wake Vortex Advisory System”--listed the Tele-IP Atmospheric Profiler as one of 16 wind profilers around the world under manufacture and development, and Tele-IP as one of two new companies with systems in testing and evaluation.

Tele-IP chairman Andrew Martin said that the publication compared the Melbourne technology “very favourably” with other wind profilers with regards to its update rates, resolution and altitude range.

“Furthermore, by comparison with all other wind profilers listed in the report using other technologies, we believe our technology leads in the area of all weather performance, a critical consideration for reliable meteorological and aviation applications,” Martin said in the release.

May said that NASA's Langley Research Center was the headquarters of the space and aeronautics organisation's scientific and technical information project office. “The program office is NASA's institutional mechanism for disseminating the results of its research and development activities. The publication in which the Atmospheric Profiler is included is one such report sponsored by NASA,” he said.

May added that Tele-IP was continuing to develop and evaluate its wind profiler technology, with a detailed analysis of recent tests at Melbourne airport expected later this year.

According to Mays, the company was planning initial overseas presentations in the US and Europe with a view to commercialising the technology. He said Tele-IP's Atmospheric Profiler was developed in Victoria by wholly-owned Tele-IP subsidiary StratoSonde Pty Ltd.

Tele-IP focuses on network management, IP network systems, product R&D and microwave radio. It uses multiple technology platforms such as IP over wireless, to develop products including satellite technologies, atmospheric profiling systems and a digital radio analyser for digital microwave ovens which the company believes is a world-first.
