The new facility, which will cater for around 1400 staff, will be ready for use by January 2004. The Bangalore centre will be Motorola's largest outside the US.

Motorola is pumping US$13 million into a software development centre in Bangalore and boosting its software engineering staff numbers in India by 25 percent.

Worldwide, Motorola employs around 3600 staff.

"The investment reflects Motorola's commitment to India and its confidence in the software talent available in India," said Mohan Kumar, vice president Asia-Pacific for Motorola's global software group.

Motorola uses the Bangalore campus and a smaller facility in Hyderabad to develop software and applications for mobile devices.
