Microsoft pulls September patch for more testing

"Late in the testing process, Microsoft encountered a quality issue that necessitated the update to go through additional testing and development before it is released," the company said in a statement on its web site.

The announcement came right after Microsoft issued its regular advance notice of its security updates, which it releases the second Tuesday of each month.

While the patch was put on hold, Microsoft said it will go ahead with its planned release of an updated version of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and one non-security, high-priority update for Windows.
